Towards the Fire
A lecture-recital celebrating the 150th anniversary of Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915)
Alexander Scriabin is known for color-music experimentation, innovative harmonic language, an affinity for esoteric mysticism, and much more. He wrote hundreds of works for piano that occupy a large portion of his output and are considered masterpieces of the 20th century pianism. In this lecture-recital we will explore his compositional evolution through piano works from his early to late periods. Highlights of the program include Nocturne for the left hand alone OP.9, No. 2, Sonata No. 4, Op. 30, Vers la Flamme Op.72.
